Essentially Ellington

This week Vincent Gardner and Reggie Thomas from the Jazz at Lincoln Centre (New York) made their annual trip to Brisbane for the Essentially Ellington Teachers’ Conference hosted by Jazz Music Institute (JMI). It was a fantastic few days of discussion about how and why we teach music and hearing Vince and Reggie demonstrate their teaching approaches with some of the students at JMI.

I was got to play a tune with Vince and Reggie at JMI Live which was such a pleasure. Every year these guys come back it gives me added inspiration to keep doing what I’m doing and to finding new ways of listening, responding and teaching.
