Joshua Hatcher Trio @ JMI Live
On April 23rd my new trio with Andrew Shaw (bass) and Aaron Jansz (drums) had its first performance at JMI Live. For this performance, I transcribed classic big band arrangements including music from the libraries of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Chick Webb, Glenn Miller, Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones and Mel Louis/Thad Jones.
Our approach to adapting this music from a format that often featured up to 18 musicians into a much smaller trio context focused on exploring the dynamic possibilities and counterpoint opportunities afforded by this instrumentation.
